MUSIC EDUCATION

RESOURCES: PRAXIS II & III

To receive an inital Ohio teaching license, students are required to take the Praxis II Exam <http://www.ets.org/praxis/>. For licensure in Ohio, you must take the Principles of Teaching and Learning, either K-6, 5-9, or 7-12. Please note that the poorest pass rates are with the 5-9 test, so we recommend you take either the K-6 or 7-12 tests. In addition you must take the Music: Content Knowledge test. You should take the Principles of Teaching and Learning during your student teaching semester. The Music: Content Knowledge test can be taken following completion of all of your music theory, music history, and music education courses. To download documents providing an overvew of these tests, go to <http://www.ets.org/praxis/download.html>. Study guides are also available for purchase (you may be able to find this in local bookstores, too). For more information about registration and test dates, go to <http://www.ets.org/praxis/prxreg.html>.

During your first year of professional teaching, you will be required to take the performance-based Praxis III exam. Read more about Ohio's Entry Year Program on the Ohio Department of Education web site.
